Frequently Asked Questions About Cat Nets

Why do I need a cat net at all?

Cats are curious. That's their nature. And that curiosity sometimes becomes their downfall. A butterfly flies by, the cat jumps onto the railing, loses its balance. This happens faster than you think. A cat net catches them and prevents them from leaving the balcony or yard unnoticed. There are also suitable models for windows and doors.

Which mesh size is the right one?

This depends on your cat's head size. Cut a thread, form a loop, and try to slip it over your cat's head. If it goes on easily, the mesh is too big.

  • 20 cm thread: 50 mm mesh size (large, sturdy cats)
  • 16 cm thread: 40 mm (medium-sized animals)
  • 12 cm thread: 30 mm (small, delicate paws)
  • 20 mm: for kittens in breeding

The loop should catch in front of the cat's eyes. Then you have the right size.

What's the difference between Standard, Robust, Extra Strong, and Extreme?

  • Standard (1.0 mm yarn, approx. 30 kg tear strength) is perfectly sufficient for calm, lightweight cats.
  • Robust and Extra Strong (1.5 mm, approx. 55 kg) are the better choice for active and heavier animals.
  • Extrem line (braided yarn, 100 kg per thread) is designed for cats that really test everything. The yarn is still only 1 mm thin, barely visible, and made with double-knotted meshes. If you're unsure, just go for the stronger variant.

Which cat net is the best?

It depends on your cat. There's no universal winner. But if you want to be on the safe side, go for the extrem nets: highest bite and tear resistance, yet visually unobtrusive. For most house cats, Standard or Robust are perfectly sufficient.

Which color is the least noticeable?

Dark nets. Sounds odd, but it's true. Black or olive green disappear against the background, similar to a mosquito net. Light or white nets, on the other hand, act like a wall. Black is ideal for balconies against open sky, olive green works well for gardens and terraces. All colors are UV-stabilized and withstand sun, rain, and frost without issues.

What material are the nets made of?

Synthetic nylon yarn, in some models additionally reinforced with a woven stainless steel thread. This makes the nets robust, tear-resistant, and weatherproof. The yarn is non-toxic, which is especially important if your cat likes to chew.

How high should the net be?

At least 2 meters, measured from the last possible jumping surface. Cats can jump 150-200 cm straight up from a standstill. Never underestimate this. For extra safety, supplement the net with our anti-climb protection. It prevents particularly ambitious climbers from getting over the top.

How much net do I need to order?

Measure the length and width of the area, then add 5-10%. The net sags slightly between the poles and needs this reserve. Better too much than too little. You can trim the excess on site with regular household scissors.

Can I cut the net myself?

Yes. Simply cut in the mesh row, at least 1-1.5 cm from the knot. Best to trim when the net is already hanging. This way you immediately see if anything is missing.

How do I attach the net?

Two options: Either thread the telescopic poles directly through the meshes, or attach the net to the poles with net ties. The second option saves much more time and nerves. A lashing line through the top mesh row additionally ensures the net doesn't sag between the poles. Detailed instructions for balconies with and without drilling can be found on our installation page.

How tight should the net be tensioned?

Loose, not tight. This sounds strange at first, but there's a good reason: A tightly tensioned net gives your cat grip when climbing. A slightly sagging net is harder to climb. Find the right tension with a bit of feel.

What is the spacing between the telescopic poles?

About 2 meters between poles. This has proven best in practice. The net doesn't sag too much, and the poles stand stable.

Can I install without drilling?

Yes. With our telescopic rods, you clamp the net between floor and ceiling or between walls, without a single dowel. Particularly practical for rentals. A step-by-step video guide can be found on the homepage: Cat net installation without drilling.

Am I allowed to install a cat net as a tenant?

This depends on your lease. Structural changes usually require the landlord's permission. The drill-free option with telescopic poles is permitted in most cases, as it leaves no permanent marks. In case of doubt, just ask your landlord, preferably in writing.

What are the extra knots in the net?

Occasionally you see an additional knot in the net that looks a bit unusual. This happens when a thread runs out during production and a new one needs to be knotted on. This is not a defect and does not affect quality. All knots, including these, are secured so they won't come loose. The net's protective function remains fully intact.

Can I wash the net?

Yes. At low temperatures in the washing machine or simply hose it down. That's sufficient for normal dirt.
