Installation Tips for Cat-Proofing a Balcony Loggia with a Cat Net

A loggia can be made cat-safe using hooks, a stainless steel rope, or telescopic poles.

Using Hooks:

Even with just a few hooks, a braided rope, and the BOY cat net, effective protection can be achieved.

Attach the hooks to the masonry – either on the inside or outside, depending on what is possible – approximately 10 cm from the edge and at intervals of approximately 20 cm. If the BOY cat net is fitted on the outside, your cat can still sit on the parapet and your plants can be tended to without difficulty.

To ensure the cat net is tensioned evenly across the entire area, we recommend threading a braided rope through the end mesh on all four sides of the net. Hook the braided rope together with the BOY cat net into the designated hooks. Pull the braided rope taut and tie it off.

Required Installation Accessories (with hooks):

  • BOY Cat Net
  • Hooks (with wall plugs)
  • Braided rope
  • BOY Tension Telescopic Poles

Using Telescopic Poles:

Tension telescopic poles can easily be wedged from the inside in front of the opening. The prerequisite, however, is that both the floor and ceiling are made of concrete.

A telescopic pole should be installed approximately every 2 m. For added stability, the tension telescopic poles can be connected to one another at the top using our connecting rods and connecting elements (see frame system). This also gives you a clean, straight net finish beneath the ceiling.

Required Installation Accessories (with telescopic poles):

  • BOY Cat Net
  • BOY Tension Telescopic Poles
  • Braided rope
  • Net ties 140 mm

Option:

  • Frame connecting elements
  • Frame connecting rods

Using a Stainless Steel Rope:

The stainless steel rope is tensioned like a frame across the loggia opening. To do this, one (very) strong eyelet screw is drilled into the masonry in each corner. The stainless steel rope is then threaded through all the eyelets and pulled taut with the rope tensioner. The cat net is attached to the steel rope using our 100 mm net ties. Done.

Required Installation Accessories (with stainless steel rope):

  • BOY Cat Net
  • Stainless Steel Rope Set (length according to the perimeter of the loggia opening)
  • 4× extra-strong eyelet screws (best sourced from a DIY store)
  • Net ties 100 mm long

Telescopic rod for clamping up to 300cm, Ø 22mm - silver-colored galvanized
Telescopic rod for clamping up to 300cm, Ø 22mm - silver-colored galvanized
You do not need any other bracket to attach this telescopic pole for tensioning, as it is simply stretched between ceiling and floor. The tie rods consist of 3 tubes with a diameter of 22 mm, which are inserted into each other. The telescopic rod can be continuously adjusted to the correct height with the turnbuckle. Use a wrench (not included) to unscrew the clamping foot until it has a firm hold. The tension rod can be used up to a maximum ceiling height of 300 cm. At the top, the telescopic rod has a hole for attaching the tension cord or connecting elements. The Boy cat net is attached to the telescopic pole with net ties or net twine – done. Attention: This tension rod is not suitable for balconies made of wood or soft materials. Floor and ceiling must be made of stone/concrete for the tension to hold. The T-bar can come loose due to temperature fluctuations. Available in: galvanised, silver-coloured Specifications: Diameter: outer tube 22 mm / inner tube 19 mm Clamping force: up to approx. 90 kg New: cross connections for tie rods for even more stability and security

Telescopic rod to extend from 110 to 210cm, made of galvanized steel
Telescopic rod to extend from 110 to 210cm, made of galvanized steel
Telescopic poles are the most commonly used tools for attaching cat nets to balconies, terraces, and gardens. It is therefore important that they are stable and strong enough to withstand wind and weather. Our extendable telescopic rods have a diameter of approx. 19 / 16 mm. To ensure that the cat net does not sag too much between the telescopic rods, they should be installed at a distance of approx. 2 m. Please note: to attach these telescopic rods, you need our telescopic rod holder for railing handrails. This telescopic rod cannot be stretched between floor and ceiling. Together with the telescopic rod holder, it provides a more permanent hold than telescopic rods for tensioning. The height of the telescopic rod can be continuously adjusted from 110 cm to 210 cm using the locking screw. A hole for attaching the braided line is located at both the top and bottom of the telescopic rod. The net can be easily attached there with a net tie together with our braided line, so that it cannot slip down and has a neat finish at the bottom. The inner telescopic rod is closed at the top with a plastic cap. The telescopic rod is open at the bottom so that any water that gets in can drain off.To prevent the cat from swinging over the net when climbing, we recommend our matching anti-climb protection for extendable telescopic rods. If you would like to use the extendable telescopic rods in the garden for a cat enclosure, we also recommend our lawn mounts for telescopic rods to ensure a firm footing. Please note: galvanizing does not offer the same weather resistance as hot-dip galvanizing or stainless steel. Depending on the weather conditions, especially rain and humidity, the telescopic poles may begin to rust over time. This is mainly a visual issue. The only alternative: telescopic rods made of stainless steel.
