Cat net for balcony without drilling

Installing a Cat Net on Your Balcony Without Drilling - Here's How with Telescopic Poles

Many landlords prohibit it, many balconies simply don't allow it: drilling. But if you still want to give your cat safe outdoor access on the balcony, you don't have to give up. With the right telescopic poles and suitable accessories, a cat net can be installed securely, stably, and without drilling – on almost any type of balcony.

On this page, we show you exactly what the installation looks like: for classic recessed balconies, for freestanding balconies, and for balconies with round or square handrails. We also explain which accessories you really need – and what to look out for when buying.

Why No Drilling – and Does It Really Work?

The short answer: Yes, and permanently. BOY telescopic poles made of stainless steel are designed to provide a firm, weather-resistant hold without a single screw in the wall. The principle is very simple: the poles are either clamped to the handrail or tensioned between the floor and ceiling – depending on the balcony type and personal preference.

Cats love to explore their surroundings. Give your feline friend some freedom to safely spend time on the balcony with our BOY cat nets. With the right mounting accessories, you can do this in no time.

Our tip: Nets in darker colors (olive green and black) blend better with the facade and are hardly noticeable from the outside.

Option 1: Recessed Balcony - Mounting on the Handrail

Mounting on the handrail – the telescopic pole holder clamps securely to the handrail, entirely without drilling.

On recessed balconies, your cat can observe everything that happens around your home. To let them out with peace of mind, the balcony must be secured with a BOY cat net. The simplest and cleanest drill-free solution is to attach the telescopic poles directly to the handrail – using specially designed brackets.

Step-by-step: Recessed Balcony with Handrail Holder

  1. Measure the handrail: Check if your handrail is square or round, and measure the edge length or diameter. BOY holders fit square handrails with an edge length of 30-85 mm and round handrails with a diameter of 30-85 mm.
  2. Choose the right holder: Select the telescopic pole holder for square or round handrails – both are made of anodized aluminum and are therefore permanently weather-resistant.
  3. Attach holders to the handrail: The holders are secured to the handrail with two long screws. No drilling into walls or ceilings is necessary. Place the poles approximately 2 m apart to prevent the net from sagging too much later.
  4. Insert and adjust telescopic poles: Insert the telescopic poles into the holders and adjust the height infinitely. The desired height is locked with the locking screw.
  5. Tension the braided cord: Thread the braided cord spirally through the outer mesh row of the BOY cat net. It prevents the net from sinking between the poles and ensures a clean, straight finish.
  6. Attach the net: Attach the cat net to the telescopic poles using the net binders. The approx. 100 mm long, weather-resistant binders are specially designed for our poles.
  7. Install anti-climb protection: To prevent your cat from climbing over the top of the net, we recommend the anti-climb protection – suitable for our extendable telescopic poles.

Option 2: Recessed Balcony - Mounting with Tension Rods (Floor-to-Ceiling)

If your balcony has a concrete ceiling and a stone floor, tension telescopic poles are a good alternative. These are simply tensioned between the floor and ceiling without any holders – similar to a shower curtain rod, but significantly more stable.

Important: Tension rods are only suitable for balconies with stone or concrete foundations. They are not suitable for wooden floors or soft materials, as the necessary counterforce is lacking. Due to temperature fluctuations, the rod may loosen – therefore, check the tension regularly and retighten if necessary.

  1. Adjust rod to room height: The tension rod consists of three telescoping tubes (Ø 22 mm) and can be infinitely extended up to a ceiling height of 350 cm.
  2. Tensioning: Using an M8 wrench, the tension foot is screwed out until the rod is firmly secured. At the top, there is a fastening hole for the braided cord.
  3. Attach net and cord: The cat net is secured to the rod with net binders (140 mm long). The braided cord keeps the net taut at the top.
  4. Optional frame system: For more stability and more even net tension, we recommend the frame system for tension telescopic poles.

Option 3: Freestanding Balcony Without Drilling

Freestanding balconies – meaning those without a protective house wall on all sides – present a particular challenge because the net must be tensioned all around. Here too, a drill-free solution is possible with the right accessories.

The telescopic pole holders are attached to the existing handrails. For the open corners, the frame system for extendable telescopic poles is recommended, which connects the poles to each other and provides additional stability. The lead rope at the bottom edge of the net prevents your cat from lifting the net from below and escaping.

Frequently Asked Questions About Drill-Free Installation

Is the cat net really secure without drilling?

Yes – provided that the accessories match the specific balcony type and the telescopic poles are correctly adjusted. BOY telescopic poles made of stainless steel are designed for durability and are stable despite wind and weather. Check the tension of the poles regularly, especially after temperature fluctuations in winter.

Which telescopic poles do I need – for tensioning or for extending?

That depends on your balcony. Extendable poles are attached to the handrail with a holder and work on almost any balcony. Tensioning poles are clamped between the floor and ceiling – this only works with concrete ceilings and stone floors but provides a particularly clean, holder-free look.

My handrail is round – which holder fits?

For this, there is the telescopic pole holder for round handrails. It is angled on the inside and firmly and securely encloses round handrails with a diameter of 30-85 mm.

Can my cat climb over the net?

Cats are inventive – that's true. That's why we recommend anti-climb protection, which is attached to the telescopic pole above the net and prevents your cat from climbing over the top of the net.

Can I simply dismantle the poles in winter?

Yes. This is one of the practical advantages of drill-free installation: all components can be detached without tools and stored compactly. In spring, everything can be reassembled in a few minutes.
