When buying a cat net for the first time, one quickly faces an unexpected question: Which variant is the right one? Is the cheapest net sufficient or do I need the strongest? Does the net have to be as invisible as possible, or is bite resistance more important? BOY currently offers six net variants that differ significantly in material, yarn thickness, tear resistance, and appearance. This guide brings order to the assortment with a clear ranking from the best to the simplest variant.

Rank 1 – Extreme: The best for strong, persistent cats
Best suited for: Large, heavy or very active cats – and anyone who wants the best possible protection.
The BOY Extreme net is in a league of its own. The yarn is not twisted like conventional nets – it is braided, from the same high-performance fibers used in bulletproof vests. The result is a tear resistance of approx. 100 kg per thread – more than twice as much as many commercially available cat nets.
The meshes are double-knotted: they do not shift even under extreme pressure. Despite this exceptional resilience, the 1 mm thin yarn remains surprisingly inconspicuous – from a few meters away it almost disappears. The net is UV-impregnated for permanent outdoor use and can be cut to size with simple household scissors.
Why Rank 1: No other net in this range – and hardly any net on the market – comes close to this combination of bite resistance and tear strength. Anyone who has ever experienced a cat damaging or breaking through a net should only consider the Extreme.
Rank 2 – Wire-reinforced: The premium choice against persistent chewers
Best suited for: Cats that repeatedly chew and bite the net – as well as multi-cat households.
The wire-reinforced net takes bite resistance to a new level: a stainless steel thread is directly integrated into the nylon yarn. This makes it practically impossible for even the most persistent chewer to sever the net. It is the only net in the BOY range that combines the flexibility and light weight of a conventional cat net with the bite-stopping effect of metal.
Especially recommended for households where cats have previously damaged nets – or where experience shows that the animal specifically attacks the net with its teeth. UV-resistant and designed for permanent outdoor use, it is a premium investment that pays for itself many times over due to its durability.
Why Rank 2: The wire-reinforced net solves a very specific and frustrating problem that no standard net can address. For owners of chewers, it is the only reliable long-term solution – and one of the highest quality nets in the entire BOY range.
Rank 3 – Transparent: The most discreet net in the range
Best suited for: Design-conscious cat owners and anyone who wants the net to disappear as much as possible visually.
The BOY Transparent net is the most visually discreet cat net in the entire range. The fine, clear yarn is designed to blend into the background – the view remains clear, the open feeling of the balcony is retained. Anyone who values the net security being as inconspicuous as possible – whether as an owner or tenant – will find the most elegant solution in the BOY program in this net.
Like all BOY nets, it is UV-resistant and suitable for year-round outdoor use. It is fully compatible with the entire BOY mounting range, including all drill-free systems.
Why Rank 3: For a large and often underestimated proportion of cat owners, aesthetics are just as important as safety. No other net in this range meets this demand as directly and consistently as the Transparent.
Rank 4 – Extra Strong: The reliable all-rounder for active cats
Best suited for: Medium to large cats, multi-cat households, and anyone looking for a robust everyday net without extra costs.
The Extra Strong net strikes the ideal balance between strength and price-performance. With a yarn thickness of 1.5 mm and a tear resistance of approx. 55 kg per thread, it is significantly more resilient than the standard net and easily withstands energetic, heavy cats. Multiple cats can jump into the net simultaneously without endangering it.
Available in mesh sizes from 30 mm to 50 mm allowing the net to be precisely matched to the size of your own cat. The UV-stabilized yarn withstands years of sun, rain, and wind. Like all BOY nets, it is seamlessly compatible with the entire BOY mounting system.
Why Rank 4: For the majority of cat owners – active but not destructive animals – the Extra Strong offers excellent protection at a fair price. It is the solid standard choice for most balcony situations.
Rank 5 – Robust: The right choice for kittens and young animals
Best suited for: Kitten owners and breeders who need a particularly fine mesh size for young animals.
The Robust net is made of 1.3 mm UV-impregnated nylon yarn and is available in a very fine mesh size of 20 mm – making it one of the most suitable nets for kittens and young animals. The meshes are tight enough so that even small heads cannot pass through, and the nylon construction offers reliable tear resistance for everyday use.
It is a solid choice for the first few months of a cat's life. Owners of adult animals – especially larger or heavier breeds – should switch to Extra Strong or Extreme in the long term.
Rank 6 – Standard: The budget-friendly entry-level option
Best suited for: Owners of calm, smaller cats with a limited budget.
The Standard net uses a 1.0 mm yarn and is the most affordable option in the BOY range, starting from €3.45/m². It offers reliable basic protection for calm cats that do not actively bite or scratch the net. Available in mesh sizes from 20 mm to 50 mm and in an inconspicuous black.
Note: BOY itself recommends switching to Extra Strong for heavier cats, as the 1.0 mm yarn is best suited for lighter and calmer animals.
